Monitor Tank and Dam Level on LoRaWAN
Every living being on Earth relies on water for survival, so knowing how much water you have in storage is hugely important. Water storge tanks, ponds, dams, and even small drinking troths are used to supply livestock with water in remote locations and can be tricky to manage for farmers. You need to top up before they’re empty but topping up to soon is just a waste of time and resources. It’s also hard to guess what effect any rain has had on your levels with out pyhsically checking.
Knowing your water tank, pond or dam levels can be just as important in bush-fire prone areas. The last thing you want to worry about when defending your property from a bush fire is if you have enough water. Knowing your water levels helps you manage your supply wisely and more importantly, lets you know when you’re running out - If you don’t at least have enough water, there’s no point risking your life trying to defend your property.
In normal household situations, running out of water can be just plain frustrating, especially if you need to rely on a delivery to resupply. It’s hard to know if there’s been enough rain to top up, so bruised knuckles from knocking on storage tanks are common.
LoRaWAN Ultrasonic Distance meters can be easily installed on any type of storage vessels. No contact is made between the water (or any other product) and the sensor, so they tend to last a long time since they don’t foul up.
Dragino manufacture ultrasonic distance meters well suited for measuring water level – as usual, plug-and-play compatible with Telemetry2U. The enclosures are IP67 rated, designed for outdoor use. They’re battery operated and thanks to the low-power consumption of LoRaWAN, you can expect years of operation before needing to change the battery.
The distance between the sensor and the top of the water or product is reported in millimetres, but you can calibrate or scale this to litres, percentage, or any other unit of your choosing on Telemetry2U’s IoT Platform. You can see you water level in real-time on your Smartphone or PC as well as set up alerts when the level drops to a point of concern.
We supply Dragino’s two types of ultrasonic distance meters that can be used to monitor water/product levels.
Dragino LDDS75 ultrasonic distance meter
The Dragino LDDS75 uses ultrasonic sensing to measures distances between 280-7500mm. Temperature compensation is performed internally to improve the reliability of data. Its rouged yet simple enough to adapt to any enviroment.
Dragino LDDS20 Liquid Level Sensor
The Dragino LDDS20 sensor is installed directly below the container to detect the height of the liquid level. It doesn’t need to open a hole on the container to be tested. The non-contact measurement makes the measurement safer, easier and suitable for toxic substances, strong acids, strong alkalis and various pure liquids in high-temperature and high-pressure airtight containers.
